Pre-Health Sciences: This concentration provides students with a strong foundation in a variety of the clinical sciences required for entry into and success in post-graduate professional programs and degrees including medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, veterinary medicine, and advanced research degrees in these fields.

Recommended minors: Chemistry, Geography, Business for Non-Business Majors, or Psychology

This degree prepares students for variety of career opportunities ranging from applied or basic laboratory research and field studies in state and federal organizations and industry, to education in public and private school systems. Furthermore, the degree provides the ideal preparation for entry into professional school and graduate programs including medical school, dental school, and veterinary school or advanced studies in the Biological Sciences.

3. University of West Georgia**

Students interested in careers as dentists need to first obtain an undergraduate degree and then apply to the appropriate professional school. While there is no specific undergraduate degree requirement for entry into professional schools, the vast majority of students accepted have degrees in Biology or Chemistry. Students should refer to the descriptions for the Biology or Chemistry pre-professional degree track programs for the degree requirements.

This degree option is frequently the choice of pre‑professional students because it allows a wide range of elective courses to fulfill the degree requirements. It is designed specifically for those students planning to attend medical, dental, veterinary, physician's assistant, or other professional programs. The general pre‑professional requirements include 2 years of Chemistry and 1 year each of Biology, Physics, and English, 1 semester Psychology/Sociology. Biochemistry is strongly recommended.

Upon completion of this degree program the student will have acquired:

·                          competence in the basic content of organic, inorganic, physical, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and biology;

·                          the ability to carry out experimental protocols and analyze and interpret data;

·                          The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written presentations;

·                          adequate preparation to compete successfully in a professional school or a science-related career

- 치대 진학 의사가 있는 학생들은 먼저 학부 학위를 취득한 뒤에 전문 대학원 (치대)에 지원해야합니다. 한국과 달리 대부분의 미국 대학교에서는 특별히 치대 진학을 위한 과가 개설되어있지는 않지만, 대부분의 치대 진학을 성공적으로 한 학생들은 생물학이나 화학을 전공하였습니다.

- 전문 대학원을 진학하고자 하는 학생들이 선택하는 옵션 중 하나는 “화학 전공 + 전문대학원 진학과정 결합 코스” 입니다. 기본적으로 이 코스는 의학/치의학/수의학 전문대학원을 진학하고자 하는 학생들을 위해 마련되었으며, 화학 과목 2년, 생물 과목 1년, 물리학 1년, 영어 1년, 심리학 한 학기, 생화학 등을 포함합니다.

 4. Columbus State University**

Pre-Dentistry

All courses required for admission to dental schools are offered by Columbus State University; however, pre-medicine is not a major degree program - it is a concentration in preparation for a career goal. Students seeking admission into a dental school should select an undergraduate academic major. Three departments publish degree progress information and provide academic advisors to support pre-medical students: they are Biology, Chemistry and Geology, and Psychology and Sociology. Within each of these programs, sufficient electives are included to allow students to take courses needed for pre-medical preparation. For more detailed information on these programs see BS Biology, BA Chemistry, and BS Psychology (listed elsewhere), or contact the Department of Biology, the Department of Chemistry and Geology, or the Department of Psychology. Students with other academic majors, interested in applying to medical schools should, during the freshman or sophomore year, contact the chair of the pre-medical advisory committee. Contact the dean, College of Letters and Sciences to learn the name and headquarters of this individual. Students with pre-medical concentrations are required to maintain competitive academic records and to attend to other admissions requirements in addition to required classes. It is recommended that students serious about making application to medical schools work through the Columbus State University Pre-Medical Advisory Committee.

5. Valdosta State University**

The pre-dentistry track was prepared by faculty in the Department of Biology who exclusively advise students that intend to apply for admission into dental school. The track is routinely updated to meet any new admission and testing requirements for this field. The Department also assists students with recommendation letters, applications, and shadowing advice. There is also a pre-dentistry student club housed in the Department of Biology.
